Philippians 3:20-21

20 But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. 21 He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

Have you ever been somewhere that makes you feel alive? For my friend Michael Todd Esser, it was the baseball diamond. Todd, who we often called “Todd-Rider”, had cerebral palsy. This disorder affects muscle tone, movement, and motor skills. Todd was in an electric wheel chair and used his head to help him move in different directions. Todd would get a ride to every practice and every game, usually showing up 5 hours early. He was a part of the team. He ate with us, practiced with us, laughed with us, and did life with us.

What Todd didn’t realize is the impact he left our team. He was our anchor. He brought us to life. He always had a smile on his face and was always talking to us about school, girlfriends, and baseball. Todd is now a citizen of Heaven. I am confident he is in heaven eating cookies and running around the diamond smiling from ear to ear. Jesus brought Todd to life on the diamond and even more so in heaven. The question is what brings you to life?

Is it your job? Your spouse? A hobby? Or is it Jesus? Psalm 36:9 reads, “For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.” Jesus is the only thing that can bring us true life. When we try to use anything else we leave feeling empty. This is why we always go back to whatever it is we “think” brings us life. The things of this world are  temporary and Jesus is eternal. Let us start living for eternity.

What brings me to life?

Am I going to Jesus to fill me up on a daily basis?

Dear Lord, we love you and we thank you for the life you have given us here on earth. Let us use it to glorify Your name and change the lives of others. Amen.

Have a great day!

C. Lyman
