25 God has given me the responsibility of serving his church by proclaiming his entire message to you. 26 This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past, but now it has been revealed to God’s people. 27 For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.
28 So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.
Paul is writing to the city of Colosse and giving them a history lesson. For a while, the Gentiles were not told of Jesus or allowed to know the power of God’s glory. It was withheld from them because they were not seen as “worthy”. They were not “Gods chosen people” as the Jews were during this time. Paul is revealing to them here that Jesus came to earth to die for people exactly like them. But, for the longest time this powerful story, the Gospel, was hidden from the gentiles.
I coach baseball at Christian Academy of Louisville out on the east end of town. I love coaching because it gives me a chance to give back all that I have learned. My first year of coaching was tough. I didn’t feel like I coached as well as I could have. I kept a lot of comments to myself and didn’t share all that I had learned. I was almost keeping a lot of the baseball knowledge I had gained from 23+ years of playing to myself. I kept it a secret.
Now some secrets should stay that way, but most of them are meant to be shared. Keeping a secret that is meant to be shared is doing others a disservice. This aligns with the Gospel as well. Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect and sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, and raised from the dead to give us hope. This is the gospel. This message was meant to be shared!
The secrets we have been talking about aren’t really secrets at all; they are solutions! It’s knowledge we have been trusted and given for a purpose. Not to be kept to ourselves. So don’t be afraid to share Jesus. He is with you and will guide you in conversations with others. Quit keeping Him a secret!
Are you keeping Jesus a secret?
How can you better share your faith?
Dear Lord, help us be confident in Your name and teach us to share, knowing it is for the best! We love you and thank you for all you do. Amen.
Have a great day!
