1 Timothy 4:11-13

11 Command and teach these things. 12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.

This was written to Timothy and he was believed to be about twenty or so years of age. He was being reminded to not be discouraged on his journey because of his age. God has him right where he wants him. And to embrace being young as an opportunity to serve his people.

I can remember feeling unqualified. Whether it was in a sport, a hobby, or my faith; I just felt like I wasn’t quite there yet. After I decided to follow Jesus it was always on my heart to start a bible study with my baseball buddies. I waited, and waited, and waited. The time were I felt qualified never came. I felt like I was too young and too inexperienced.

I now know I’ll never be experienced enough. I felt like I had to get myself perfect and know all the answers. Not true! All  you have to do is following someone who is perfect and knows all the answers. Enter Jesus. Jesus can do anything through you if you just let him. It doesn’t matter what anyone else says. I ended up starting the bible study with my baseball buddies after I graduated. Four years it took! I wish I started sooner, but better late than never right? You are qualified.

It ended up being one of the best decision I ever made and I’m glad I acted on it. I got to see guys open their hearts and get real. There is nothing like walking along side someone who struggles with the same things as you. Don’t let your age or lack of experience hold you back from what God has put on your heart.

Do you feel unqualified?

Is Jesus calling you to something today?

Dear Lord, let us be bold in our faith and help us to act on what you put on our hearts. Let us put away the fear of our youth and inexperience and replace it with You. Amen.

Have a great day!

C. Lyman
