James 1:5-7
5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
Let me just start by saying James is a boss. There is so much goodness packed into this book! I cannot wait to go through it with you. There were four James in the Bible, which can get confusing. From my limited research I’ve found most people believe this to be James the brother of Jesus. Talk about standards to live up to. He starts by talking about faith and endurance, and slowly leads into asking God for things.
One thing I’ve slowly noticed about myself is I’m not asking God for enough things. I don’t mean like a fancy car or a million dollars. Even though that would be sweet if it worked like that. Feel free God! All kidding aside, I feel like sometimes God is waiting to give us answers. I feel like He is waiting and wanting to help us. If only we would just ask.
One of the boldest requests I’ve asked God for was to be a Cape League All-Star. I was coming off the worst season of my life my sophomore year and I was heading to the best summer league in the country. I asked and God answered. I think He answered because He knew I believed in all my heart He was going to come through.
We can ask for anything, but God has His perfect plans all mapped out for us already. So if you ask for something and it doesn’t come, don’t be discouraged. Keep asking! He loves conversation with us and I’ve grown to love it too. Asking questions is the best way to learn about ourselves and the world around us.
God is waiting to answer your questions and requests. He is waiting to help. So what are you waiting for?
What do I need to start asking God for?
Do I believe God will provide what I ask for?
Dear Lord, we are asking you now to help us ask questions and make bold requests. Trusting completely you will follow through as You see fit. Thank you. Amen.
Have a great day!
