1 Peter 2:5-6
5 And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. 6 As the Scriptures say,
“I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem,
chosen for great honor,
and anyone who trusts in him
will never be disgraced.”
Happy Sunday! I love days like today where we can reflect on the previous week and prepare for the what’s ahead. God has big things in store. I’m thankful you’ve decided to spend some time in scripture with me as we walk through 1 Peter together.
This is a beautiful picture being painted. Verse five reminds us we are living stones God is using to build his temple, or church. I don’t know a ton about building a temple, but I know every piece is important. If you take out one brick it could cause the structure to fail. One essential factor to keep in mind is the foundation. It is the most crucial part of the building process in order for it to last. I believe Jesus is the foundation. He is our foundation.
Jesus is what holds us all together and keeps us standing, but we are needed to continue the growth of the temple. Like I said earlier, taking out a stone could hinder the building process. Our goal on earth is to build that temple as much as possible. One way to do this is to stand firm in our faith using our foundation, Jesus, as our glue and our guide.
Inviting others to be a part of this process is an incredible thing. We are called to serve and lead others to Jesus. If we leave our stone as it is without bringing more in, we are stunting the growth process. Inviting people to church. Asking people questions about their life. Serving others. These are ways we can build and solidify our stones. It is a great honor to be a part of this process and it is life changing. Don’t keep it to yourself! Add more stones.
How can I strengthen my stone?
Who can I start inviting to be a part of this masterpiece?
Dear Lord, thank you for letting us be a part of your plan. You leave us in wonder. We thank you for your son Jesus, the foundation of the Church. Protect us and guide us as we walk through this week with You. Amen.
Have a great week!
