1 Peter 2:22-23
22 He never sinned,
nor ever deceived anyone.
23 He did not retaliate when he was insulted,
nor threaten revenge when he suffered.
He left his case in the hands of God,
who always judges fairly.
It was in fourth grade when I got into my first fight. Well, I wouldn’t really call it a fight. I beat the heck out of this kid. I’m not proud of it, but it happened nonetheless. I had been getting bullied by a kid in my class. Every time we would pass each other in the hallway, I would get a stiff elbow to the stomach. It nearly knocked the wind out of me every time. This had been going on for months and I finally had enough.
One day I woke up and said to myself, “If it happens again today, it will be the end.” Lone behold, it happened that very day. We crossed paths in the bathroom and he get me a blow to the stomach. Immediately I threw him into a headlock and gave him a few punches to the face. A week of in-school suspension was the verdict and I accepted even though I felt like I was defending myself.
Jesus went through something similar. Read the verses again. Jesus was insulted. Jesus suffered. Just like you and I do. What makes Him different is he never retaliated and never threatened to get even. Jesus knew God would judge them in the end for what they did to Him. He stood firm.
Talk about uncommon. Jesus was the definition of uncommon. Born from a virgin, never sinned, raised from the dead. I mean c’mon! Now we can’t necessarily do any of these things, but we can live a little more like Jesus every day. Look a little more like Jesus than we did yesterday. By the end of your life, you’ll look uncommon. You’ll look a lot like Jesus.
How can I be uncommon?
What area do I need a fresh start in my life?
Dear Lord, thank you for not being like every other person to walk the earth. You have given us an example of how to be uncommon. Help us to follow that. Amen
Have a great day!
