1 Peter 3:3-4
3 Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. 4 You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.
I skipped 1 Peter 3:1 because it’s Friday and I didn’t want that flame to arise. If you know the verse you’ll understand. Anyways I love these two verses above. I feel like now more than ever daughters of God need to hear this verse and let it rest on their hearts.
I have two beautiful younger sisters inside and out. The world continually tells them they are not enough. It tells them to fix the outside and the inside will feel better. We are growing up with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. All great platforms that can be used for positive influence, but are too often used in the wrong ways. People sit on Instagram seeing everyone’s perfect life. We must remember, we are only seeing the best parts of peoples life.
People don’t often post on Instagram saying they are depressed or somethings wrong with their life. These posts wouldn’t get many likes most believe. I believe the most beautiful thing about a person is when they share their heart. When they share what is within. What is within defines us. Jesus, the Holy Spirit, is inside us. Jesus defines us. Our appearance does not.
These few verses are being spoken to wives, but can apply to women and men. Yes we need to look decent and mix in some deodorant, but listen to me. If we are spending more time looking in the mirror than we are looking at our hearts; then our priorities are poor. Beauty within never fades, while soon our appearance will be without beauty.
What do I spend more time on? Appearance or within?
Who needs to be encouraged to focus on within?
Dear Lord, thank you for looking at our hearts. Our physical features will be flawed forever, but the beauty of our heart can last forever. Help remind us of this truth. Amen.
Have a great weekend!
