2 Peter 1:4
4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
I can remember when I was younger and I would “pinky promise” friends different things. Whether it was a secret I wouldn’t tell, something I would follow through with, etc. I still do this today, minus the pinky, most times.
As you can imagine it’s almost impossible to follow through with every promise. Broken promises can cause a lot of damage. Loss of friendships, hurting relationships, bitterness, and even a loss of trust. There is power in promise.
So what promise is Peter talking about? What are these promises Jesus has given us. As I was preparing for this blog God laid a verse right in my lap. Galatians 3:22 says, “But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.”
Jesus never broke a promise. He promised freedom, He died on the cross. I could name a million more. He made tons of “pinky promises” in the Bible. Guess what? He followed through with all of them so far. Jesus does what He promises and there is promise in what He does. My hope is we will begin to live in this way. Live with promise.
Is there promise in what I do?
Am I making or breaking promises?
Dear Lord, thank you for who you are. Thank you for your Son who lives a life of promise. May we use this knowledge to trust in Him and grow closer to Him. Amen.
Have a great weekend!
