1 John 2:4-5
4 If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. 5 But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him.
Do you ever read the Bible and think, “Gosh dang-it. He’s talking about me!” I think that almost every time I read the Bible. I have been the person who has obeyed God and the person who has not. My goal is to strive towards obedience boldly and consistently.
A friend told me the other day that he started his journey with Jesus feeling like he had to obey God. He said it all changed when He started wanting to obey God. The more he realized the rewards for being obedient, the more he pursued obedience.
We don’t have to do anything. God gave us free will for a reason. But if we follow Jesus and claim we know Him truly; then it should show. Our actions should reflect the love of Jesus. We shouldn’t have to think about doing right or wrong. We should just do what we know is right.
I have found when I am most obedient is when I am most rewarded. I believe when we are obedient God smiles down on us and cheers! It’s the small steps of obedience that have a huge ripple effect on our life and those around us. Lets start by being more obedient today. One small step at a time.
What areas is God calling me to be more obedient?
Do I need to start saying “Yes God” more?
Dear Lord, help us to say yes to you. Teach and guide us to what you want for our lives. We love you and thank you. Amen.
Have a great day!
