1 John 2:17
17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.
It seems as if people have lost the urgency in life, myself included. “It’s not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it.” says Seneca the Younger. He’s right, so many times I think about how quickly life has passed by already. I look at how much time I have wasted on worthless things.
Fortnite, TV, web surfing, my phone. All great things in moderation. When they take up most of your day, it begins to be a problem. I recently downloaded an app called moment. It tracks your usage of your phone throughout the day. The results are kind of sickening. I spend between 4-6 hours a day at various times on my phone.
I’m not saying we can’t use these things at all, but reflect on your life. Could you be volunteering in the community once a month instead of watching Netflix one afternoon? Could you read your bible instead of scrolling through Instagram once a day? These are questions I am asking myself. We need to be disciplined in order to live with purpose.
My goal for myself is to please God more every day. Not so he will like me more, because He already loves me as much as He ever will. The same is true for you. I want to please God because He sent His son to die for me. Plain and simple. Jesus loved me enough to die for me; therefore I can go out and love others.
What’s distracting me from serving others?
How can I start being intentional with pleasing God?
Dear Lord, thank you for life. Remind us that every day matters. Remind us every day is a chance to change someone’s heart and make their day. Thank you for this opportunity. I pray we don’t waste it. Amen.
Have a great weekend!
