Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”
I have probably read Genesis more than any other book in the Bible. Why? Mostly because I try to read the whole Bible every year and this is where I start. I have never completed it all the way through, but I intend to soon. Great goal to keep in mind as we head toward 2019.
We are made in Gods image. This is pretty significant. Humans were originally made sinless in the form of Adam and Eve. If you know the story, they both ate from the forbidden tree and set the rest of the human race into a sinful culture.
What does this mean for you and I? Once Adam and Eve ate from the tree, sin entered the world. This doesn’t change the fact we are still made in God’s image. We still reflect God in all ways, minus sin.
This leaves us with responsibility, and we must not take it for granted. The Creator of the universe chose us to reflect Him and His glory. We must treat our body, minds, and souls as such. We must know this truth and use it to motivate us to live a life worthy of His calling.
What does it mean to me to be made in Gods image?
How am I treating this responsibility?
Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of life. Let us be mindful while we are going through life that we were made to reflect You in all we do. Amen.
Have a great day!
