Glorify.

Genesis 11:4

Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.”

This weekend was a wild one! I am sorry for not posting the past few days. I have no excuse and will be better going forward. With that said, I am excited to dive into a story we all need to hear today. This is the story of ‘The Tower of Babel’. If you haven’t heard it, strap in and lets get to reading.

At this time everyone in the world spoke the same language and they had just found a plain in the land of Babylonia. They started talking about building a tower to worship. What does God do? He says heck no, that ain’t happening. Logically, he makes them all speak different languages so they couldn’t communicate and build the tower. Super passive aggressive if you ask me! Eventually they ended up being scattered across the world.

Have you ever pursued something and had it flipped upside down? In this case, the people made a tower to try and avoid being scattered when really it was the cause of them to be scattered. I think there is something deeper we can see from this story. I think the reason it didn’t work out is because they didn’t have the right ‘why?’

Why were they building the tower? To glorify themselves. What happened when they tried to glorify themselves? God disciplined them. If what we are doing isn’t to glorify God there is a good chance it won’t last. When we look to glorify God, He blesses us. I have seen this in my own life and I know if you look deeper you can see it too. Let start worshiping God in unity and stop making it about us.

What am I glorifying in my life?

How can I make God the centerpiece?

Dear Lord, thank you for Your patience with us. Make our heart more like Yours today. We love you and thank you. Amen.

Have a great week!
