Genesis 15:6

Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!” And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.

I have a tough time with this. How can Abram just believe God like this? I mean what God is telling him is crazy. He will have as many descendants as there are stars in the sky. Do you guys know how many stars there are? Here is a little science lesson for us all. There are about 10 billion galaxies. An estimate of the amount of stars per galaxy is 100 billion. Simple math brings us to 1 billion trillion stars. Sounds like something a little kid would say.

What’s the point? Who cares. Well obviously Abram doesn’t. If God told me that I would have that many descendants I would be like uhhhh what? I don’t even have a girlfriend. Keep in mind at this time Abram didn’t have a Son, yet. So how in the heck is he supposed to have this many descendants? He isn’t really sure, but he believes anyways.

When I played baseball, believing had endless power. Believing we could win a game or even just believing in myself. It made a difference in my performance and on the other had it would hold me back when I was lacking. I remember losing almost all belief my sophomore year and it absolutely crushing my performance to the point I almost quit. A prayer and a heart change made a world of difference in my career.

I feel like God is similar. When we lack belief in Him and what he is capable of doing, His power is limited. When we believe with all our hearts and minds,  this is when God is able to bring about miracles. We see many examples of this kind of faith in the Gospels where God performs miracles out of peoples undoubted faith in Jesus. Lets go all in for Jesus. Heart, mind, and soul. Let’s watch and experience what He is capable of doing.

Do I believe that God is capable of anything?

When I pray, do I trust God is going to deliver?

Dear Lord, may we start to pray with full belief that you will provide whatever it is we will ask for. Once we give you our hearts, I believe you will give us our prayers. For it is in giving we receive. Amen.

Have a great day!

C. Lyman
