Do not make idols or set up carved images, or sacred pillars, or sculptured stones in your land so you may worship them. I am the Lord your God.
Idols can range anywhere from people to possessions. Some people idolize celebrities while others idolize their phones. An idol is what you worship. We may not see it as worship, but we worship a lot of things other than God. Often times more than God. The way I look at it, if you’re spending more time on something than you are on your relationship with Jesus, it is an idol.
An average person spends 2 hours and 30 minutes on their phones per day. Can you imagine what the world would be like if we spent 2 hours and 30 minutes with Jesus every day! A lot of you are probably thinking, “Whoa that doesn’t even seem possible! How am I supposed to read my Bible for 2 hours and 30 minutes every day?” You aren’t, but that would be impressive.
What I am trying to encourage you with is to spend more time with Jesus. He doesn’t want you to feel bad about spending time on other things than Him. He just wants to be right in the middle of it all. Look at your own life. What are some things that are taking up a lot of time during your day? Is it work? Is people? Is it shopping?
Jesus doesn’t want us getting too wrapped up in other things to where we forget about Him. He wants us to grow close to Him and let His love overflow onto others. Start with your relationship with Jesus before anything else. Strengthen it and build it to where nothing else will stand taller and more bright.
What are some idols in your life?
How is your relationship with Jesus?
Dear Lord, thank you for your word and its ability to guide us throughout our days. We know you are in all things and we ask you help us to remember that. Amen.
Have a great week!
