Lamp.

Numbers 8:1-2

The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to Aaron and say to him, ‘When you set up the lamps, see that all seven light up the area in front of the lamp stand.’”

Light is used to symbolize God, faith, and holiness through scripture. We see references to light throughout a lot of the New Testament mainly. Jesus refers to himself as the light of the world. We see Jesus calling us to be lights to the world. Obviously, with light comes darkness, but we are called out of the darkness and into the light as we see in scripture many times.

We are all lamps or lights. At least we are all called to be. There are many things during our life that will want to hide our light. Other people, our own self doubt, and even Satan. I haven’t done my best at putting my lamp in a place where others can see it. I know this is what God wants. He wants us to go out and glorify Him by being a light.

A light doesn’t go under a desk or in a drawer, it goes on top of the desk or nightstand for everyone to see. We hide our lights now more than ever. We hide in our rooms playing video games, *guilty. We hide in our phones, *guilty. We hide in our headphones, *guilty. We hide our lights more often than we shine them. At least I do.

There is a time for all these things, but they shouldn’t be all your time. Our time should be spent loving God and His people. Our light should be out talking to people and sharing Gods glory. Only then will we be able to shine Jesus onto others. We aren’t the lights, but rather the lamp that holds the light.

How can I begin to be a light in my community?

What is holding my light back from shining?

Dear Lord, thank you for your grace and mercy. We hide too much, but we pray we begin to shine for You. Teach us and show us how we can be a brighter light in the lives of others around us. Amen.

Have a great day!
