Matthew 6:33

33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

The first time this verse caught my eye was about a year ago. Dan Cathy was visiting Chick-fil-a. Now if you don’t know Dan Cathy, pause, get your google on, and come right back. The man is a legend! Rightfully so. He has his priorities together. He truly loves God and loves people well. After he would sign something he would tag on this verse, Matt 6:33.

Ever since then it has stuck with me. To simplify this verse I basically would tell myself, “Put Gods kingdom first, and everything else will fall into place.” Well easier said than done, and what does that look like anyways? I think it starts with being in tune with the Spirit and having a solid relationship with Jesus. Knowing the Word won’t hurt either.

Once we are in tune with what is “for” the Kingdom we will then be able to seek first His kingdom. Then it is just a matter of obeying. Jesus tells us, if we just let go of what we want and what feels best, he will give us everything we ever could need or want. It is kind of hard to comprehend because it makes sense to say, “if I go get what I want, then I will have it.” But God makes it easy by providing for us.

Jesus is where we can leave our worry, our doubt, our unsure-ness, our lack of confidence. Jesus wants us to cast all these things onto Him and seek first the Kingdom. Before ourselves, before anything, because then and only then will everything be given to us. Evaluate your life today. Do you seek first the Kingdom at work? When you’re with your family? When you’re out with your friends? I can’t say yes to all of these.

I am not perfect. You are not perfect. Jesus doesn’t expect you to be. But what we can do is look a little more like Jesus today. Point a little closer to the Kingdom today in all we do. Lets make that a focus. You and me. Let’s strive to seek first the Kingdom so that we can glorify Jesus. I am excited to see how our lives can change.

Do you accept the challenge of putting the Kingdom first?

How can I start applying this today?

Dear Lord, thank you for your word and the convictions it gives us. May we seek first Your kingdom today. Help us do that. Be with us. Amen.

Have a great day!

C. Lyman
