Acts 4:11

Jesus is “the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’

A cornerstone by definition is, “the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure.” It’s crazy to me that one stone can set the course for an entire project. Once it is laid, the course of the building is set. It’s cool to think we have this same ability. For our family especially.

My grandpa is who I believe to be the cornerstone of my family. He is the only one of his friends to go to college. He worked his butt off as a teacher and was frugal with his money. He now has 5 amazing children who are leaders in their respective fields and is absolutely chillin in retirement. He says, “I love it, I worked hard, now I don’t gotta do nothing.” He lead them and set the path for others to follow.

Jesus did this with His life and for your life. He decided to live his life in a way worthy of following. He lived a life that would become the foundation of many of our beliefs as a society today. Jesus was rejected by many, persecuted, and killed. He became our cornerstone on the 3rd day when He rose and showed us true hope.

My question is, who is the cornerstone of your life? Is it your job? Is it your spouse? What is it? Whatever you lay your foundation on will determine how you handle storms in your life. An old parable once told says there was a man who built his house on solid ground and a man who built his house on unsteady ground. Whose house do you think stood longer? The answer seems clear, and it is.

Build your life on something worth following. Build your life on someone, not something. Jesus.

Who are some cornerstones in my life?

Is Jesus truly my main cornerstone?

Dear Lord, thank you for the people ahead of us in our lives that have set the path. Thank you especially for your Son Jesus. The ultimate example of someone worth following and modeling our lives after. We love you and praise you. Amen.

Have a great day!

C. Lyman
