Who is called to make disciples?

Acts 6:7

So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

Remember back in Elementary school when they would choose kickball teams. The two captains were either the two “coolest” kids at recess or the two most athletic kids that couldn’t be on the same team. Either way, the two captains would inevitably pick the best kids first. The kids who weren’t gifted the ability of kickball, were saved for last.

Not feeling good enough sucks. I have been there and I am sure you have too. Whether it is being picked last for a kickball team or being denied at a job interview, we have all gone through the feeling of “lesser than.”

What I believe to be beautiful about the New Testament is that we aren’t called to be “good enough.” We ARE good enough because of Jesus.

This comes to the table when we are talking about making disciples as well. Making disciples isn’t just for church leaders or even church goers. It is for everyone! We are all called to teach others how to lead and how to love like Jesus did!

This is the reason the Gospels are still relevant today. Jesus equipped his 12 disciples on how to live, lead, and follow. It is mind blowing this is the reason Christianity is still thriving today. One man, Jesus, was able to teach others how to live so well that over 2000 years later He is still being celebrated by millions.

What is stopping you? Do you feel like you aren’t ready? Do you feel unprepared? You will always be able to find an excuse NOT to do something. Lets find an excuse TO do something. What’s the worst that could happen? You develop and grow a friendship even stronger? You show someone how to lead so well they begin to lead others?

Don’t let an excuse hold you back from changing the lives of potential generations. Lets begin to intentionally invest in others just as Jesus did.

The only way the Gospel can spread is through people. Through people like you. People willing to take time to learn about Jesus. People willing to invest in themselves and others. The verse above says, the word of God spread. The number of disciples increased rapidly. Through my interpretation of the text, I believe the reason the word of God spread is BECAUSE of the number of disciples increasing rapidly.

It is through people that God is able to spread His word. I am sure He could have done it another way, but He chose people. He chose me and He chose you to continue on His legacy.

My hope is we do just that. We begin to find people in our lives that God has called us to pour into and we pour. We teach them about Jesus and watch Him work.

Dear Lord, thank you for the example your Son has given us. We ask that You help us stay in tune with the Spirit and begin to step into the calling You have for us. We love you and thank you for being the GOAT! Amen.
