Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized
Do you remember when you accepted Jesus into your life? It was arguably the most refreshing moment for me. I was at such a low place to that point in my life that I needed something new. I was on fire for Jesus when we began our relationship together. After a while unfortunately it began to fade. I started being in the Word less and praying less. Eventually there were days where my relationship with Jesus felt absent.
I’m just being honest with you guys because I know if you are a follower of Jesus you have been through this. There are dry seasons in life. Seasons where we are so busy we forget what is truly important. We focus too much on work, school, sports, whatever it is, more than we focus on our Creator.
It is a dangerous place to be. The more we lose touch with Jesus, the more susceptible we are to the enemies distractions. It is important to continue to fill our self up in some way and continue to be made new.
Saul, also known as Paul later in Acts, was absolutely shaming and bashing the name of Jesus. He was ordering followers to be thrown in jail. Lets just say it, he was a jerk. Jesus isn’t about to let this happen. He flashed down from heaven and showed Saul who is boss. After a conversation between the two, Saul was blinded for three days.
When I was walking far from Jesus I felt like Saul. I can imagine Saul felt lost. I bet he felt kind of hopeless. I bet he felt unsure of the steps he was taking. I bet he had a lack of trust. I bet most of all, he for sure wished he wasn’t blind. For us we need to be careful because we can become blind without even realizing it. We can slowly fall from Jesus and before we know it we look up and haven’t talked to Jesus in months.
Look what happens in this verse we have highlighted, “Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again…” Ananias was sent by Jesus to tell Saul he may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Saul didn’t deserve this! Saul wasn’t even trying to be a better person. Saul was throwing Christians in jail. His past is filled with hate and a cold heart. Why would Jesus heal him?! Let me tell you something about Jesus. He doesn’t care where you have been or what you have done. Our bible tells us that no one is too far from the grace of Jesus. Saul looked far from Jesus. We outwardly saw how he went against Jesus, but how many of us would say we are like Saul?
At first glance I would say, no way Jose. I love Jesus. Jesus is my dude! I trust him! But then when I look deeper into my life I will see how I have mistreated someone or how I just kind of brushed off an encounter with someone. 1 John 4:8 tells us, “8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” WAKE UP CALL! Shoot sometimes we need that reminder. God doesn’t care what we say as much as he cares what we do. God just wants us to LOVE.
Saul was given fresh eyes when he was healed. He was given a new perspective. His lens on the world quickly changed. When you come out of the darkness into the light, life will never be the same. This is why Jesus sacrificed himself, so that we could come out of the darkness and into the light without worrying about our past.
Maybe today you are feeling far from Jesus. Maybe you are looking for a fresh perspective. All I would tell you is to talk with Jesus. Ask him for fresh eyes and a fresh heart. To see and feel him in a new way. Matthew 7:7 tell us, “Ask and it will be given…” This isn’t always the case, but I am confident He won’t deny you a fresh start. We all need it at some point. I know I do.
If you have a story about a time Jesus has given you a new perspective or a fresh start, I would love to hear about it below in the comments! Please feel free to share and encourage others through the words Jesus has given us! Thanks for reading.
Dear Lord, thank you for making us new every single day. May we wake up every morning and feel renewed by your Spirit. Thank you for always showing up. We love you and praise you! Amen.
Have a great day!
